A person being creative by painting small pictures

How to get creative again

When you spend more time away from your mobile phone, the question often arises: How can I use and fill this newfound time wisely? In our digital world, where the smartphone is often omnipresent, it can be an interesting challenge to consciously switch off and integrate new, creative activities into your everyday life. Especially if you want to boost your creativity, there are a variety of ways to discover new avenues. One particularly accessible and popular option is to express yourself artistically – for example, by drawing something.

If you haven’t picked up a pencil in a while, this might be just the right time to start again. Even if you feel that your drawing skills are a little rusty or you’re unsure whether you can draw well at all, that’s perfectly fine. After all, drawing isn’t just about perfection, it’s about the creative process that gives you space to put your thoughts and feelings on paper. However, if you don’t feel ready to draw freehand, there are many alternative ways you can still increase your creativity and diversify your free time at the same time.

Other ways to be creative

An excellent way to be creative without pressure is to use a colouring book. Here you can use predetermined patterns and designs and colour them in as you wish, which can have an extremely relaxing effect. Alternatively, you can use ‘painting by numbers’, where you follow step-by-step instructions to create a beautiful picture at the end. These methods do not require extensive previous artistic knowledge, but they do encourage your creativity and offer you a wonderful opportunity to get creative.

You can also turn this creative time into a little self-care ritual. For example, plan a cosy evening where you focus entirely on your well-being. Make yourself comfortable with some tasty snacks and a drink of your choice. Perhaps prepare yourself a warm tea or a cool, refreshing drink to emphasise the relaxed atmosphere. While you work on your creative project, you can also listen to a podcast that inspires or entertains you, or an audio book that transports you to another world.

This combination of creativity, relaxation and self-care not only allows you to make good use of your free time, but also provides a beneficial balance to your stressful everyday life. Try it out and discover how good it is to spend time consciously and creatively, away from the constant glance at your mobile phone. Maybe you’ll discover joy in it.
